FATHER & SON SCULPTURE - Tartu, Estonia

I had no idea what was going on with this sculpture when I saw it, and it certainly struck me as bizarre and unsettling. I later looked it up and discovered that the artist Ulo Oun apparently meant to show the connection and difference between father (represented by the self-portrait of himself) and son (a likeness of his son Kristjan at the age of 18 months). Oun chose to make both figures at the same height to emphasize the difference in body proportions as we age. While I'll admit this sculpture was thought-provoking (enough to make me still wonder about it over a year later), and knowing the intent of the artist helps me to better understand and appreciate this piece, I'd still argue that the addition of a couple of well-placed articles of clothing might have avoided giving the impression that this sculpture is an ode to pedos.
