MANNEQUIN ADMIRES TATTOO - Berlin, Germany When I saw this guy with his tattooed head start dressing up a mannequin as a big bear, I knew there was a potential opportunity for an interesting image. After trying a couple of different angles, I settled on this one, and caught the mannequin "caressing" the man's head just before he put the bear head on.

MEMORIAL TO THE MURDERED JEWS OF EUROPE- Berlin, Germany Wandering around the city of Berlin, it's hard to avoid confronting the memory of the Holocaust. As I understand it, this was a conscious decision, to ensure the victims are never forgotten. These large blocks form a massive maze that visitors can wander through, and they are located right in the city center, where they cannot possibly be forgotten. The experience is intended to make you feel small, disoriented, and lost.

JEWISH MUSEUM - Berlin, Germany This art piece is meant to symbolize the unheard cries of terror in concentration camps during the Holocaust. The big room is filled with these metal faces, which you are encouraged to walk on. If you do, they make an eerie, creaking, metallic screech that echoes around the large chamber.

JEWISH MUSEUM - Berlin, Germany Although it's impossible to tell from this photo, these large colums are all tilted, while the ground remains level. The design of this particular section of the museum is intended to disorient you, and it works. As you walk through it, you feel like you are walking at an angle, and that you are perpetually falling over. This brilliant design has an unsettling and queasy effect--not pleasant at all. But that's the point. If you are in Berlin, I highly recommend a visit here.

JEWISH MUSEUM - Berlin, Germany This is the Tower of Terror. As I understand it, it's intended to give a bleak, hopeless sensation. There is light coming through a corner of the stark, harshly angled cavern, but it's a tease... far out of reach. Unedited.
