SUNSET OVER OIA - Santorini, Greece
It's not so easy to take an ugly shot in the picturesque town of Oia (although I somehow managed to do just that). Every where you turn is another quaint, gorgeous little house or church.
The island of Santorini appears to have been designed by God specifically for viewing sunsets. It's shaped like a backwards letter "C," facing west towards a couple of other smaller islands, so you always have something interesting as your foreground, and the steeply inclined angle of the terrain generally allows for an unobstructed view, sort of like how each row of seats in a movie theatre is more elevated than the row in front of it.
If you're a photographer, go off-season, because it gets ridiculously crowded in the summer time. For some reason, as soon as the oppressive heat of summer disappears and the climate gets a bit cooler, the island basically goes to sleep. I was there in October, 2008, and not only was the weather perfect (in my opinion), but I had my pick of all the best spots to set up my tripod. Just don't expect any semblance of bustling nightlife during the off-season:)
